This ministry focuses on health promotion of body, mind and spirit within the faith community. It offers a variety of ways to serve, including:
Parish Nurse
A Registered Nurse with valid Virginia nursing license; has completed approved Parish Nurse Education Program or commits to taking the course. The course is approximately 48 hours of class time; scheduling may vary, but will take approximately 8 weeks.
Time commitment: After training, meetings are held one or two evenings per month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Additional hours vary according to the activities and programs planned by the ministry.
Parish Nurse Volunteer
Serves as a volunteer health professional on the Parish Nurse Ministry Committee. Qualified persons are needed to assist with monthly blood pressure screening. In addition, other areas of expertise will be needed for health fairs, educational seminars, etc. Meeting attendance will be encouraged.
Time commitment: Hours vary according to the activities and programs planned by the ministry.
Lay Volunteer to Parish Nurse
Support the Parish Nurse Ministry through a variety of tasks such as taking minutes at meetings, typing, computer research, telephone calling, setting-up equipment, etc.
