Redeemer Youth Ministry:

Something for Everyone!

 

Note: Volunteers in some ministries involving youth, the Diocese requires background checks which include Volunteer Select Form [(English PDF) (Spanish PDF)] for everyone over the age of 16 in addition to VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

 

Leadership

Youth Council (Youth 6th - 12th grade)

Youth interested in serving on Jr. Youth Council (6th - 8th grade) or Sr. Youth Council (9th - 12th grade). Responsibilities include (but not limited to) helping to plan activities, support current activities and make decisions for future growth of the Youth Ministry of the parish. Applications to run for either council are available in mid March and elections will be the first weekend in May.

Time commitment:
Monthly council meetings (currently second Monday of the month) for one year.

Youth Council Sponsors (Adults)

Adults to help advise & guide the Junior & Senior Youth Councils. Responsibilities include being part of the council meeting and helping to create a safe environment for youth by making sure that 2 or more adults are present. Outreach

Redeemer Service Corps (Youth & Adults)

Modeled in the philosophy of the Peace Corps, this ministry is service to our parish and community. Small teams of youth and adults are assigned projects, which may include (but limited to) minor home maintenance (yard work, winterizations, painting, etc.), our church or other needs in the area. This ministry is intended for youth (grades 6 -12) and adults, but entire families are welcome to participate.The Diocese requires background checks: Volunteer Select Form [(English PDF) (Spanish PDF)for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Time commitment:
Currently we have a workday one Saturday every month from September thru May. On occasion, there may be special projects that need help from this ministry.

Work Camp (Sr. Youth & Adults)

The summer work camp experiences are a tremendous way for Sr. Youth (9th – 12th grade) and adults to live out the gospel. Redeemer is involved in Catholic Diocese Work Camps and Catholic Heart Workcamps. Any youth (current 8th - 11th) and adults interested in work camp will attend informational meetings in the fall. Time commitment:
One informational meeting in the fall, one mandatory Workcamp In-service Retreat, 1-2 organizational/formational meeting(s) and one full week in the following summer.

Jr. Youth Mini Work Camp (Youth & Adults)

This summer activity is designed for 6th -8th grade youth and adults to have a work camp experience without the commitment of an entire week or staying overnight. For 4 hours a day, we will offer a four-day (Monday -Thursday) experience that will allow those involved to serve our Redeemer and surrounding communities. Previous summers were at All Saints Catholic School. Time commitment:
One to four days in the summer (most likely in July); 1-2 formation and/or group building events prior to the three days of service.

Religious Education

Youth R.E. Lead Catechists (Adults)

Confirmed Catholics are needed to teach Religious Education sessions on either Sunday mornings or Sunday evenings. Session dates and topics will already be chosen. Ideally, separate teams of 3-4 adults will be formed for the morning and evening sessions. Each team will divide the number of sessions so that catechist would only have to teach 3-4 sessions the entire year. Youth R.E. Coaches (Adults & 12th grade Youth)

Youth R.E. Session Coordinator (Adults & 12th grade Youth)

Youth R.E. Hospitality Crew (Adults)

Morning or evening crews are scheduled to coordinate the snack portion of the R.E. sessions. Although there are a total of 14 sessions, members of the crew usually volunteer for no more than 2-3 sessions for the entire year. Youth are in charge of bringing the snacks to each session. Time commitment:

Confirmation Sponsors (Adults & 11th-12th grade Youth)

Individual meetings with candidate to be determined by you and the candidate. Attend the Sunday portion of the Confirmation Retreat and the actual Confirmation Mass in the spring.

Confirmation Team

Music Ministry

Choir (Senior Youth and Adults)

This ministry is for parishioners willing to share their gift of song regularly at Liturgy. Sight-reading not necessary.

Time commitment: 
Rehearsal each Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Worship Space from September to June and one seasonal Saturday rehearsal.  Members can choose the Liturgy at which they sing and this may change from week to week.

Redeemer Ringers (Adult and Senior Youth)

Adults and youth (grades 9-12) interested in ringing handbells at Liturgies during the year.  Training is provided.

Time Commitment: 
Rehearsals are Thursdays 7:15 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. from September - June and seasonal Saturday rehearsals.

Youth Choir (Youth)

Youth (6th - 12th) singers & instrumentalists who are interested in learning more about music and what role it has in liturgy.  There will be many opportunities to participate at Mass throughout the year, including Youth Masses.

Human Concerns

CARITAS

Redeemer hosts homeless men, women and children twice per year for one week each. Volunteers provide hospitality & meals during our week. Volunteers can work with others to provide a dinner meal or assist in the making of lunches for our guests to take with them during the day. Provide transportation to and from showers at other nearby churches.

Time commitment:
Depending on volunteer choice, typically one evening during the week.

Haiti

Volunteers to this ministry stand in solidarity with the women and children of A.F.A.L. in Haiti. Redeemer volunteers have the opportunity to travel to Haiti during the year – typically two trips are offered each year – one in the Spring and one in the Fall. Ministry volunteers meet once a month to focus on the needs of this ministry.

Time commitment:
Meetings are Monthly; two trips a year are offered.

No Room at the Inn

Nativities display and fund raising for Haiti, local homeless & for domestic violence. Volunteers are needed the week before the event for set up, the day of to assist visitors and the last day for take down. No Room is the first full weekend in December.

Time commitment:
Varies from 1 hour to a whole weekend based on volunteer commitment.

Liturgy

ACCENT

Individuals interested in enhancing the environment for worship during the Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter seasons and Ordinary Time. Anyone with ideas and a willingness to work can join.  (You do not have to be an artist.)

Altar Servers

All children and youth are needed to assist at liturgies. Must have received First Eucharist.  One training session is required  and senior Altar Servers mentor new members.

Time commitment:
One liturgy every one to two months.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Youth volunteers use materials provided to share the Sunday Scriptures with elementary school children, helping them to hear and understand God’s Word in an age-appropriate manner. Attendance at one training sessions in August is required. The Diocese requires background checks: Volunteer Select Form [(English PDF) (Spanish PDF)for everyone over the age of 16 plus VIRTUS training for everyone over the age of 18 volunteering for this ministry.

Time commitment:
Approximately one hour per month, ½ hour planning and ½ hour at the assigned liturgy.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (10th – 12th)

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve the parish by distributing the Eucharist at liturgy. Training is provided. Participation in ministry formation classes is required. Confirmed Catholics are welcome to serve in this ministry.

Time commitment:
Usually one or two weekend liturgies per month or as needed.

Lectors

Ministers proclaim God’s Word at liturgy. Training is provided. Ministers need to be committed to serving on this ministry when assigned or make appropriate contacts to ensure coverage. Confirmed Catholics are welcome to serve in this ministry.

Time commitment:
Every six - eight weeks including time to prepare and reflect on readings for your scheduled liturgy.

Linens

Parishioners to launder and iron altar linens and towels.

Nursery Workers

Youth and adults are asked to care for children ages 6 months to 3 years during Liturgy. Guidelines are provided. Processional Cross Bearer

Strong persons to carry the Cross in the procession at the beginning and end of liturgy.

Parishioners interested in working the sound board during liturgies. Training will be provided.

Ushers/Greeters

Responsibilities include greeting parishioners and assisting the community at the Liturgy you attend.

Baker’s Dozen

Bake cookies and provide refreshments for parish receptions.

Teams needed at each Mass. Prepare, serve & clean up refreshments for all sacraments.

Parishioners to write articles for the parish newsletter.

Time commitment:
The Good News is published once a month and articles are submitted on the 10th of the previous month of publication (i.e., Apr. 10th for the May issue).
